MCP (Model Context Protocol)

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to other software. An app publishes an MCP server that describes what it can do (for example, “list scheduled posts” or “find a conversation”), and an AI assistant that supports MCP can call those tools on the user’s behalf, with the user’s permission.

For a small business, MCP means you can work with your tools by simply asking an AI assistant in plain words instead of clicking through several dashboards. The important part is access control: connections are usually authorised by signing in, you decide what the assistant may read or change, and you can revoke access at any time.

Example: a marketing agency owner asks her AI assistant: “Which posts are scheduled for our bakery client next week, and how did last week’s posts perform?” The assistant queries the connected tools and replies with a short summary.
