Call to action (CTA)

A call to action is a short instruction that tells people exactly what to do next: book, buy, write, subscribe or save.

A call to action (CTA) is the part of a post, page, email or ad that tells the reader what to do next: “Book a slot”, “Write ‘price’ in DMs”, “Save this for later”, “Tap the link in bio”. It can be a sentence in the caption, a button, or a keyword people send to start a chat.

For a small business, a clear CTA is often the difference between a post that gets likes and a post that gets customers. People rarely take the next step on their own; they need a simple, low-effort instruction. One post should have one main CTA, not three competing ones.

Example: a massage studio ends a post about back pain with “Write BACK in direct messages and we’ll send you three free slots for this week”. Instead of vague interest, the studio gets conversations it can turn into bookings.

In AI SMM a keyword CTA like this can start an automatic flow that shows free times and books the client: see chat automation.
