Click-through rate (CTR)

Click-through rate is the share of people who clicked a link, button or ad out of everyone who saw it.

Click-through rate (CTR) shows how many people clicked out of all who saw something. The formula is simple: clicks ÷ impressions × 100%. It applies to ads, link posts, stories with links, emails, push notifications and buttons on a page.

For a small business, CTR tells you whether your message and call to action are compelling enough to make people act. A post can have huge reach and still bring no one to your site if the CTR is low. A low CTR usually means the offer is unclear, the audience is wrong or the link is hard to spot.

Example: an ad for a yoga studio is shown 10,000 times and gets 150 clicks, so the CTR is 1.5%. After changing the headline from “Yoga classes” to “First class free for beginners”, it gets 260 clicks from the same number of impressions: 2.6%.

CTR is only half the story: always check what happens after the click. AI SMM’s popups and email campaigns track conversions and sales, not only clicks.
