Impressions count how many times a post, story, ad or video was shown on screens. If one person sees your post three times, that is three impressions but only one person reached. Some networks now call this metric “views”, and exact definitions differ slightly between platforms.
For a small business, impressions help understand visibility and frequency. Comparing impressions with reach shows how often the same people see your content: a high ratio in an ad campaign may mean you are showing the same message to the same people too often. For organic posts, rising impressions usually mean the network is distributing your content more widely or people come back to it.
Example: a post reached 1,200 people and got 1,700 impressions. On average, each person saw it about 1.4 times: some scrolled past twice, and some came back to read it again.
