A conversion is any action that matters to your business: a purchase, a booking, a filled form, a message, a subscription. The conversion rate is the share of people who took that action out of everyone who had the chance: conversions ÷ visitors (or clicks, or recipients) × 100%.
For a small business, conversion is where social media turns into money. A thousand new followers are useful only if some of them eventually book or buy. Tracking conversions shows which posts, pages and offers actually work, and small improvements in conversion rate are often cheaper than buying more traffic.
Example: 400 people visit a cake shop’s order page from Instagram in a month, and 20 place an order. The conversion rate is 5%. After adding real customer photos and a clearer price list, the same traffic brings 28 orders: 7%.
