A mention happens when another user includes your account in their content, typically by writing @yourname in a post, comment, reply or story. The mentioned account gets a notification. In a broader sense, “mentions” also include posts that talk about your brand without tagging it, which you can find only through search or monitoring.

For a small business, mentions are a stream of free signals: happy customers showing your product, questions from people who want to buy, complaints that need a quick reply, and content you can repost with permission. Missing them means missing sales and chances to show you care.
