What it is
The December solstice is the astronomical moment when the Northern Hemisphere is tilted furthest from the Sun, giving the shortest day and longest night of the year. It usually falls on 21 or 22 December, and from then on the days slowly get longer. In the Southern Hemisphere it is the opposite: the longest day.
Many cultures have marked it with festivals of light, which is why it feels natural for brands to talk about warmth, rest, candles and turning a page.
Symbols: Candles, lanterns, a low winter sun, evergreen branches, a cosy blanket

Today is the shortest day of the year, so we turned the lights low and the candles up. Come in this evening for a hot drink, a slice of something warm and a table by the window. From tomorrow the days start to grow again, and that is always worth a toast. Tell us your favourite winter drink in the comments.
The longest night is a good reason to slow down. This evening we are keeping the studio quiet with warm towels, soft light and tea. If you have been rushing through December, treat this as a small pause. Book a calm hour for yourself or give someone a pause as a gift. Message us and we will find a time that suits you.

Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Left: “I will use the short day to be productive”. Right: a person wrapped in a blanket with tea. Light, relatable humour about winter.
- Sun clocking out early. A simple drawing or caption of the sun “leaving work at 4 p.m.” and promising to return tomorrow. Keep it warm and playful.
What to avoid
- Do not claim exact astronomical times or dates for your region unless you have checked them; the date can be 21 or 22 December
- Do not mix it with a heavy sales push; the mood of this day is quiet and warm
- Avoid overly mystical or health claims about the solstice; keep to atmosphere and rituals
When to post
- Prepare the visuals a few days ahead, and take evening photos while the light is low
- Publish in the late afternoon or evening, when the shortest day is actually being felt
- The day after, post a light follow-up such as “days are getting longer” to keep the thread going
What to check afterwards
- Saves of the carousel or Pinterest pin, which show how much people want to come back to the ideas
- Replies to the story question and sticker taps
- Evening visits or bookings if you promoted a cosy offer
