What it is
International Cinema Day, on 28 December, is usually linked to the first public paid film screening by the Lumière brothers, which took place in Paris in 1895. It is often treated as the symbolic birthday of cinema as a public entertainment.
The day falls in the holiday week, when many people are at home watching films, so it is an easy hook for recommendations, quizzes and film-style content for almost any business.

What to aim for
- Get comments and saves with recommendation and quiz posts
- Show the creative side of the brand in the quiet week between holidays
- For education and online schools: promote film-based learning, language practice or storytelling courses
Post ideas by format
Post
- “Five films to watch during the holidays” with one sentence on why you picked each, ending with a question to followers
- A film-poster style picture of your product or team with a funny movie-style title
Carousel
- “Learn English with films: 6 scenes and the phrases they teach”: one scene and phrase per slide
- “Movie night checklist”: one slide per item, from snacks to blanket to the playlist

- Hook: “Guess the film in five seconds.” The team acts out a scene with props and the audience guesses in comments
- A trailer-style 15-second video for your product with a dramatic voice and a text like “Coming this year”
Stories
- A quiz: “Guess the film from the emoji”, three rounds
- A poll: “Comedy, drama or fantasy for tonight?”

Meme and trend formats that fit
- Movie vs reality. Two panels: a dramatic film scene on the left and your real working day on the right. Use a generic described scene, not a copyrighted frame.
- What I ordered vs what I got. Compare a long film you promised to watch with the series you actually binged. Make it self-ironic and end with your recommendation.
What to avoid
- Do not use stills, posters or clips from real films without rights; draw, stage or describe the scene instead
- Do not give away tickets or prizes you have not arranged with a partner
- Do not spoil famous endings in a public post; use spoiler warnings
When to post
- Plan the quiz and the film list a week ahead so the team can approve it
- Publish in the evening of 28 December, when people choose what to watch
- On 29 December, share the best quiz answers and winners
What to check afterwards
- Saves of the film list or carousel
- Replies to the quiz and poll stickers
- Shares of the Reel, which show how entertaining it was
