What it is
Cosmonautics Day marks 12 April 1961, when Yuri Gagarin became the first person to fly into space aboard Vostok 1. It is a major day in Russia and other former Soviet countries, and the United Nations also observes 12 April as the International Day of Human Space Flight.
For businesses it is a rare day when science, history and imagination meet. Kids’ brands, educators, cafés and shops use it for space-themed content, quizzes and creative products.
Symbols: A rocket, stars, an astronaut’s helmet, the planets, the phrase “Let’s go!” which Gagarin is famous for saying at launch

Today is Cosmonautics Day, and our kitchen has a mission: the Space Menu. Think star-shaped biscuits, a blue lemonade called Orbit and a dessert named Moonwalk. Try the new menu until the end of the week and tell us which dish deserves to become permanent. Ready for launch? Countdown starts at the counter.
On Cosmonautics Day we are launching a five-question quiz for children and parents. Questions are about planets, rockets and the first spaceflight. Answer in the comments, and tomorrow we will publish the right ones with short explanations. Share the quiz with a friend who loves stars. The best team will get a small prize from our teachers.
Cosmonautics Day invites us to dream. Children are welcome to draw the rocket they would take to space, and parents can send a photo of the drawing in a message to us. We will display the best works at the centre next week. Add the child’s first name and age if you wish. Please do not send photos of faces.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Two panels: the space mission as a child imagines it and the real life of the same person with a cardboard box. Keep it warm and playful.
- Countdown reveal. A countdown from ten to one ending with a funny reveal of your product. Works well as a Reel or story.
What to avoid
- Do not repeat unverified space “facts” found online; check anything you quote against a reliable source
- Do not trivialise the history: keep jokes about the day light and respect the people involved
- Do not use copyrighted film or franchise characters and logos in your visuals
When to post
- Prepare the quiz and the menu a week ahead, and test the quiz questions on a colleague
- Publish on the morning of 12 April, a Monday in 2027, in time for the school day
- Reveal the quiz answers the next day and thank the winners
What to check afterwards
- Quiz answers and comments, a direct signal of interest
- Saves and shares of the educational posts
- Orders of the space product or visits to the themed event
