What it is

World Art Day is observed on 15 April, the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, chosen to symbolise the link between art, science and creativity. It was recognised by UNESCO and aims to promote creative activity and the diversity of art around the world.

Brands use it to show customers’ creativity, to share design and packaging stories and to invite followers to draw, paint or make something.

A ten-minute drawing lesson

In this short lesson for World Art Day our teacher shows how to draw a simple still life in ten minutes. All you need is a pencil, paper and an object from your desk. Pause at each step and follow along. At the end, share your drawing in the comments and tell us what you enjoyed most about it.

Here are five simple projects: print with potatoes, paint with sponges, make a collage from old magazines, draw with the left hand, and paint on stones. Save this pin for a rainy weekend and tell us which activity became the family favourite.

Meme and trend formats that fit

  • Expectation vs reality. Two panels: the masterpiece in the mind and the real result on paper. Make it self-deprecating and encouraging: everyone starts somewhere.
  • Art critic. A serious “art-critic” caption describing a funny child’s drawing or a product doodle. It is gentle humour as long as it never mocks someone’s real work.

What to avoid

  • Do not use artists’ work without permission and credit; always name the author
  • Do not mock followers’ drawings; the day is about encouragement
  • Avoid generic stock images of palettes; show real work from your team or customers

When to post

  • Announce the challenge several days ahead so people can prepare
  • Post the main piece on the morning of 15 April (a Thursday in 2027)
  • In the following days share submissions and thank participants

What to check afterwards

  • Number of submitted drawings and tagged posts
  • Shares and saves of tutorial or idea content
  • Visits to your product pages from the stories and posts
