What it is
Apple Saviour (Yablochny Spas) is the popular name of the Feast of the Transfiguration, observed on 19 August in the Russian Orthodox tradition. By custom, apples are blessed on this day, and many people try the new season’s apples only after it.
It is a religious and cultural date, so cafés, bakeries and shops that take part should keep a warm, respectful tone and focus on the harvest, home baking and seasonal food.

Apple Saviour has arrived, and our kitchen smells of apples and cinnamon. For a few days we are baking a classic charlotte and serving a spiced apple tea. The apples come from the market just around the corner. Which would you choose, charlotte or tea? Tell us in the comments and come by for a warm slice this weekend.
With Apple Saviour a lot of people start baking again, so we put together a small selection in our catalogue: baking dishes, apple corers, cosy kitchen towels and jam jars. Nothing complicated, just useful things for an autumn kitchen. Have a look and tell us what you bake first. We will gladly help if you cannot decide.
Apple Saviour is the day for a charlotte! Three eggs, a glass of sugar, a glass of flour and plenty of apples: whisk, pour over the apples, bake until golden. Watch our pastry chef do it in half a minute, then try it at home. Save the video for the weekend and tell us how it turned out, or just come over for a slice.
What to avoid
- This is a religious feast, so avoid jokes about the faith, the Transfiguration or church customs; keep the focus on the harvest and the food
- Do not use the feast as a loud sales hook: a seasonal dessert is more fitting than a big discount banner
- Do not claim health benefits for apples or any dish
When to post
- Test the recipe a week ahead and photograph it in good light
- Publish in the morning of 19 August; in 2027 it falls on a Thursday, which works well for a post that invites people to visit after work
- The day after, share guest photos and mention how many people tried the new dessert in general terms
What to check afterwards
- Orders of the apple dessert or drink compared with a normal week
- Saves and shares of the recipe carousel or video
- Comments that ask for the recipe, which suggests interest in repeat content
