What it is
World Elephant Day is observed on 12 August and was launched in 2012 by wildlife groups to raise awareness of the threats to African and Asian elephants and to encourage their protection.
Children’s brands, educators and gift shops use the day for facts, drawings, themed products and, where possible, transparent support for conservation projects.

It is World Elephant Day! Today we learn something new about the biggest land animals. Elephants live in families led by an experienced female, and they care for the little ones together. Ask your child which fact surprised them most. Draw your elephant and send it to us in Direct, and we will show the nicest pictures in our Stories.
In this video we draw an elephant step by step for World Elephant Day. You will need paper, a pencil and a bit of patience. Pause after each step so your child can catch up, and talk about what elephants eat and where they live. At the end, show your drawing in the comments and write the name you gave your elephant.
On World Elephant Day we added an elephant corner to the shop: soft toys, books about wildlife and colouring pages for kids. If you are looking for a gift for a young animal lover, write to us and tell us the child’s age, and we will suggest a few options. We also share links to reliable organisations that help protect elephants.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Elephant in the room. A light, wordplay-based joke with a cartoon elephant illustration. Keep the focus on the animal’s charm and do not mock real situations.
- Which animal is your mood today?. A cheerful format with an elephant among other animals. It should be easy for children and parents to join in.
What to avoid
- Do not use unchecked facts or numbers about elephants; keep to well-known, sourced information
- Do not promote elephant rides or entertainment that harms animals, and do not use photos from such places
- Do not claim that a purchase “saves elephants” unless you can name the project and the amount of help
When to post
- Prepare the facts, sources and the support plan a week ahead
- Publish in the morning of 12 August so that families see it before the day’s activities
- The day after, show the drawings and, if you collected funds, report how they were passed on
What to check afterwards
- Shares of the facts carousel with parents and teachers
- Number of drawings and photos received
- Visits or bookings to a workshop or a themed product linked to the post
