What it is
Book Lovers Day is an informal reading holiday observed on 9 August, popular on social media in the United States and elsewhere. It has no official status and no single known origin; it grew as readers, bookshops and libraries began to share it online.
It is a gentle, cosy day: people post what they are reading, swap recommendations and treat themselves to a book and a hot drink.
Symbols: A stack of books, a bookmark, a cup of tea, a reading lamp, a bookshelf, a cosy blanket
Emoji: 📚 ☕ 📖 🕯️ 🤓 ❤️
Colours: Warm brown, cream, deep green
Hashtags: #BookLoversDay #BookRecommendations #CurrentlyReading #Bookstagram #ReadingList
What to aim for
- Start a conversation with a simple question about what people read
- Sell books, courses or cosy products with a reading theme
- Show the expertise and taste of your team through recommendations
Post ideas by format
Post
- Your team’s summer reading list with one short sentence about each book
- “Three books that changed how we work” with a real, personal reason for each
Carousel
- “Five books for a weekend”: one slide per book with who it suits and how long it takes to read
- “How to read more: a realistic plan”: slides with small, specific habits
Reel / short video
- Hook: “The book I recommend to everyone.” A 15-second pitch with the cover and one line
- Bookshelf tour: a slow shot of the team’s favourite books with captions
Stories
- A poll: “Paper book or e-book?”
- A question sticker: “What are you reading right now?”

Happy Book Lovers Day! Our corner by the window is ready: a quiet table, a good lamp and a small shelf you are welcome to read from. Bring your own book or choose one from the shelf, and we will pour your coffee. Tell us in the comments what you are reading now, and we will add a few ideas to our shelf.
For Book Lovers Day our team picked five books that help us teach better: two on learning habits, two on clear writing and one just for fun. We wrote a short note about each one. Take a look and tell us in the chat which one you will read first. We would also be glad to hear your own recommendations.
It is Book Lovers Day, and we need your help. Write in the comments one book that you would give to a friend, and tell us why. We will collect the best ideas into one list and share it tomorrow. If you are looking for a gift for a reader, send us a message with their favourite genre, and we will suggest a few titles from our catalogue.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Two panels: the stack of books you plan to read this summer versus the one you actually finished. A relatable reader’s joke.
- Bookshelf judgement. A light format where you show a shelf and guess the owner’s personality. Keep the tone kind and do not mock tastes.
What to avoid
- Do not recommend books you have not read; honest short notes are more trusted
- Do not shame people who read little; the day is about joy, not about reading counts
- Do not reproduce long quotes from copyrighted books; a short line with the author’s name is enough
When to post
- Prepare the list and covers a week ahead and make sure the titles are in stock if you sell them
- Publish in the morning of 9 August and gather recommendations during the day
- The day after, share the audience’s list and thank everyone who recommended
What to check afterwards
- Comments with book recommendations and replies in Stories
- Saves of the reading list
- Orders or visits connected with the books you recommended
