What it is
Mothering Sunday is the British and Irish Mother's Day, held on the fourth Sunday of Lent, about three weeks before Easter. It is usually linked to an old Christian custom of visiting one's “mother church”, which over time turned into a day for honouring mothers with flowers and small gifts.
It is a different date from the Mother's Day many other countries mark in May, so international brands should not mix the two. For local businesses it is a strong moment for flowers, gifts, beauty treatments and family meals out.

Mothering Sunday is coming, and we have set aside a few tables for afternoon tea: a pot of tea, a little cake stand and a quiet corner by the window. Book a table for you and mum, and tell us in the comments the one thing she always says that makes you smile. We will share our favourites in Stories.
Looking for a gift that is not another candle? A gift voucher for a facial, a manicure or a relaxing hair treatment gives mum an hour that is only hers. You can choose a treatment and we will prepare a printed card to hand over on Mothering Sunday. Send us a message and we will help you pick.
Mothering Sunday gifts: we have put together a short list in the catalogue, from small things for the kitchen to cosy extras for the evening. Order by the date shown on the delivery banner and it will arrive in time. Not sure what she would like? Write to us with her hobbies and your budget, and we will suggest three ideas.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Two panels: the perfect breakfast in bed you plan for mum and the kitchen after you actually try it. The joke is on the cook, never on mum.
- Mum said.... A text-over-photo format listing the phrases mums say that everyone recognises, such as “Did you eat?”. Keep it warm and end with a thank-you.
What to avoid
- Do not assume everyone has a mum to celebrate; offer a way to opt out of Mother's Day emails and keep the tone gentle
- Do not mix up the UK date with the Mother's Day other countries mark in May
- Avoid stereotypes about what mums like; ask or suggest several kinds of gift
When to post
- Publish the gift guide and delivery deadline 2–3 weeks ahead, since orders are placed early
- Post a booking reminder in the week before and a morning greeting on the day
- The day after, thank customers and share a few photos with their permission
What to check afterwards
- Orders, bookings and voucher purchases that arrived through the gift guide or link in bio
- Saves and shares of the gift guide carousel, which show people planned to come back to it
- Comments on the “what did your mum teach you” question as a measure of warmth and engagement
