What it is
International Animation Day is observed on 28 October. It marks the date in 1892 when Émile Reynaud first showed animated images to a paying public in Paris, and it is usually linked to the animation film association ASIFA.
For businesses working with children and education it is a creative day: a chance to show how images come to life, to recommend cartoons and to invite families to try making their own.

On International Animation Day we are opening a stop-motion workshop for children. They will build a small set, move a clay figure frame by frame and see their story move. No experience needed, just curiosity. Places are limited, so write to us if you want to join. And tell us in the comments: what was your own favourite cartoon as a child?
Happy International Animation Day! In this short video our teacher shows how to make a simple flipbook with paper, a pencil and a paperclip. It is the oldest trick in animation, and it teaches children the idea of frames. Watch it with your child, make one together and share the result in the comments. We would love to see your first animation.
For International Animation Day we have put together a short list of cartoons by age: gentle ones for the youngest, funny ones for school children and thoughtful ones for teenagers. We chose them for story and craft, not for popularity. Save the list and write to us: which cartoon did you watch with your child that you remember until today?
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Nostalgia: kids of the 2000s. A text card in a nostalgic format: “If you remember this cartoon theme, you are in the club.” Use your own drawn visuals and avoid images of real characters.
- Expectation vs reality. A smooth professional animation against a child’s first flipbook where the character jumps around. Warm and encouraging, never mocking a child’s work.
What to avoid
- Do not use frames, characters, music or logos from famous cartoons in commercial posts without a licence; draw your own
- Do not use children’s faces or names in videos without parents' consent
- Do not recommend cartoons you have not watched; check the age suitability
When to post
- Prepare the animated logo or sample flipbook a week ahead; animation takes longer than it looks
- Publish on 28 October, in 2026 a Wednesday, in the afternoon when families are home
- A few days later, share the best works from the workshop, with parents' agreement
What to check afterwards
- Sign-ups for the workshop or the video views
- Shares and saves of the cartoon list or the flipbook carousel
- Comments with childhood memories, which show emotional connection
