What it is
On 27 January 1944 the Siege of Leningrad, which had lasted almost 900 days, was fully lifted. The day is one of Russia’s Days of Military Glory and is a day of remembrance for the people who died of hunger, cold and shelling, and for those who survived and defended the city.
It is a day of grief and respect, not a holiday for promotions. Brands that speak should do so briefly, personally and sincerely, and many choose to pause advertising altogether.

On 27 January we remember the Siege of Leningrad: the people who did not survive it and the people who endured it. In our school this week, children listened to stories from families, read letters and visited a museum with their teachers. We invite you to read about the history through reliable sources. If your family keeps a story from those years, we are ready to listen.
Today our team pays tribute to the people of Leningrad who endured the siege and to those who defended the city. We have paused all promotions for the day. If you want to learn more, we recommend visiting a local museum or a memorial page: the stories told there speak louder than any post. Thank you for sharing this day of memory with us.
Today our team has paused scheduled posts and campaigns in respect of the people of Leningrad. Each year we choose silence over content on this date and invite colleagues to do the same if it feels right for their brand. If you manage accounts for others, consider checking the calendar before scheduling: sometimes the most professional decision is not to publish.
What to avoid
- Do not use any memes, jokes, humour, trending sounds or playful stickers on this day: it is a day of mourning
- Do not run promotions, discounts or giveaways, and do not tie the date to sales or product placement
- Do not use facts, photos or quotes from unverified sources; if you are unsure, do not post, and always credit archive material
When to post
- Check the scheduler a few days before and pause promotional posts planned for 27 January 2027
- If you publish, do it in the morning, once, with a calm text and no call to action
- On the following day return to your usual plan, without referring to the day in a promotional way
What to check afterwards
- Do not track the day by reach or sales: it is not a marketing occasion
- Read the comments and respond respectfully to personal stories
- Note whether your audience welcomed the pause, and use that in next year’s planning
