What it is

Burns Night is celebrated on or around 25 January, the birthday of the Scottish poet Robert Burns, born in 1759. It is traditionally marked with a Burns Supper: haggis with neeps and tatties, a reading of Burns’ poems and songs, and a toast with Scotch whisky.

It is a warm, social evening that is popular in Scotland and with Scottish communities around the world, which makes it a good seasonal topic for restaurants, bars, shops and travel brands.

A tartan corner for your home

To mark Burns Night, we collected a small selection in tartan: scarves, blankets, cushion covers and candle holders. Perfect for a cosy winter evening or a themed table at home. Open the catalogue from the menu button and tell us what colour your room is. We will suggest a combination of two or three pieces that go together.

Meme and trend formats that fit

  • Expectation vs reality. A grand image of a Burns Supper next to the real thing at home: slightly burnt neeps and a very serious toast. Keep the joke about your own kitchen, not about Scottish people.
  • Tourist guide. Describe a “how it sounds vs what it means” layout of Scottish words, with your own simple drawings. Make it affectionate, never a mockery of accents.

What to avoid

  • Do not mock Scottish accents, customs or national stereotypes: celebrate the tradition with respect
  • Do not serve or promote alcohol to minors, and follow local advertising rules for alcohol
  • Do not copy long poems from books or the internet in full; a line or two with credit to Burns is enough

When to post

  • Plan the menu and bookings two to three weeks ahead; 25 January 2027 is a Monday, so consider a reservation reminder on the weekend before
  • Publish the teaser three days before and the main post on the morning of the day
  • The day after, share photos from the evening and thank the guests

What to check afterwards

  • Table reservations or orders connected to the theme
  • Saves and shares of the hosting guide or the word list
  • Comments with favourite dishes or poems, a signal for the next seasonal menu
