What it is
System Administrator Appreciation Day, also known as SysAdmin Day, is observed on the last Friday of July. It is usually linked to an IT administrator who started it around the year 2000 to thank the people who keep networks, servers and offices working.
It is popular in Russia and many other countries as a warm, humorous workplace day. Companies thank their IT teams, and technology brands joke about the classic “have you tried turning it off and on again” line.
Symbols: A server rack, a keyboard, a cable, a “turn it off and on again” sticker, an energy drink

Today is SysAdmin Day, and we want to thank the people who make our work possible. When the internet drops, the printer refuses, or a password is forgotten, they fix it without complaint. Our IT team does more than repairs: they help us avoid problems before they appear. Thank you for being the quiet reliability behind our work.
A gift for SysAdmin Day: a short checklist for small businesses. Check that backups work and are stored separately, update systems regularly, use unique passwords, remove access for people who have left, and test your recovery plan once a year. Save it for your admin and send it to a friend who runs an office. Write in the chat if you want us to add more items.
SysAdmin Day. Let’s remember the phrases every admin hears. “It was working yesterday.” “I did not touch anything.” “It is only a small question.” “Can you look quickly?” Thank you to everyone who answers these with patience. Tell us the phrase your IT team hears most often, and let’s collect the full list today.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Turn it off and on again. A well-known IT joke format: show a problem and the classic solution. Keep it warm and show respect to the person who really fixes things.
- What users say vs what they mean. A two-column list of typical user phrases and their real meaning. The humour should be about the situation, not about people being ignorant.
What to avoid
- Do not mock users or colleagues as incompetent; the joke should be friendly toward both admins and users
- Do not publish real internal incidents or names without consent
- Do not use a thank-you post as the only gesture; a real small thing for the IT team, such as lunch or time off, means more
When to post
- Prepare a thank-you for the team in advance and agree on something real, like a lunch
- Publish in the morning of the Friday itself, when the working mood is relaxed
- The day after, collect the funniest replies and thank the community
What to check afterwards
- Comments and shares, especially from IT professionals
- Saves of the checklist and clicks to your offer
- For B2B: new contacts or inquiries from technical roles
