An influencer is a creator, blogger or expert with an engaged audience that listens to their opinion. Influencers are often grouped by size: nano (up to about 10,000 followers), micro (roughly 10,000–100,000), mid-tier, macro and mega. Size matters less than trust and how well their audience matches your customers.
For a small business, working with an influencer is a way to borrow trust. A recommendation from someone people already follow can do more than an ad, especially for local services, food, beauty, kids’ products and hobbies. Look beyond follower count: check real engagement, comment quality, audience location and whether the person genuinely fits your brand.
Example: a new climbing gym invites a local outdoor blogger for a free session. She posts stories of her first route and a discount code for her followers; the gym can see exactly how many new visitors used the code.
Always agree in writing on what will be published, when, and how the collaboration will be marked as advertising, following local rules and each network’s policy.
