What it is
Wikipedia Day is celebrated on 15 January, the anniversary of the launch of Wikipedia in 2001. The online encyclopedia is written and edited by volunteers around the world and has grown into one of the most visited websites.
For brands, the day is a light hook for “facts about us”, educational content and quizzes. It is also a good moment to remind followers to check their sources.

- Encourage followers to learn, ask and share

Happy Wikipedia Day. Our team loves encyclopedias, but we love sources even more. Swipe to learn five quick facts about language learning, and in the last slide we show where to check each one. A good habit for any day: if a fact surprises you, find a second source before you share it. What is the most surprising thing you learned recently?
To celebrate Wikipedia Day, we wrote our company page the way an encyclopedia would: neutral tone, short sentences and a “citation needed” note after every compliment. The result is surprisingly honest. Founded by a small team with a big coffee habit, we work with clients who value clear processes. What would the first line of your company article say?
Wikipedia Day quiz: we say five facts about our subject, and you guess if each one is true or false. Write your answers in the comments, and in the next video we will reveal the right ones with sources. No googling during the quiz, it is more fun that way. Tag a friend who always says “I knew it” and see if they really did.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Citation needed. Add a small “[citation needed]” label next to bold claims in a playful image about your product. It is a well-known internet joke format, so keep it light and apply it to yourself.
- Expectation vs reality. Left: “I will read one short article”. Right: three hours later, you are reading about something completely different. Relatable and light.
What to avoid
- Do not claim facts without checking them; on this day of all days, accuracy matters
- Do not use Wikipedia’s logo or copy its text word by word; write your own text and credit sources
- Do not make the content too serious; the day is meant to be curious and playful
When to post
- Prepare and check the facts a week before
- Publish on 15 January, ideally in the afternoon when people have time to read and play
- Reveal the quiz answers the next day with sources to keep the interest going
What to check afterwards
- Saves and shares of the facts carousel
- Quiz and poll participation in stories and comments
- Profile visits from the playful “company article”
