What it is
Old New Year is celebrated on the night of 13 to 14 January in Russia and several other countries of the former Soviet Union. It comes from the difference between the old Julian calendar and the Gregorian calendar that the country switched to in the early twentieth century, so people can celebrate the New Year a second time.
It is a relaxed, playful holiday without big preparations, which makes it a great moment to extend holiday offers, sum up the first two weeks of the year and talk to followers in a lighter tone.
Symbols: Leftover festive table, a half-decorated tree, a small toast, a calendar with two dates, a second chance

What to aim for
- Extend the holiday mood and revive attention after the long break
- Give people a second chance to use a seasonal offer, as a small thank-you rather than pressure
- Increase engagement with playful posts

Tonight is Old New Year, which means the festive season is not over yet. We kept the garland, baked the same cake again and are serving our holiday menu until the end of the week. Come by for tea and a slice with a friend and tell us in the comments: is your tree still standing or already in the box?
Old New Year is the last small holiday of the season, so our festive sets are available until the end of the week while stock lasts. If you did not have time to choose a gift in December, now is a quiet moment to do it. Open the catalogue from the menu button and tell us what you are looking for, and we will suggest three options.
Old New Year is a perfect excuse for a second attempt at the plan for the year. Two weeks in, our team took half an hour to check what is already moving, what is stuck and what we should drop. We recommend doing the same: choose one priority, one deadline and one person responsible. What did you change in your plan after the first two weeks?
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Left: “I will start my resolutions on 1 January”. Right: you on 13 January saying “well, Old New Year is also a start”. Warm self-irony.
- Calendar excuse. A mock chart that shows how many “new starts” the calendar gives you in a year, from Monday to the Lunar New Year. Make it playful, not preachy.
What to avoid
- Do not claim the holiday is observed everywhere; explain it briefly for international followers and use warm, simple wording
- Do not run a fake “last chance” sale; if you say a deadline, keep it real
- Do not make the post overly long; the holiday mood is light
When to post
- Prepare the posts before the holidays so the team is not working on the day
- Publish on the evening of 13 January or the morning of 14 January
- After the day, switch to regular working content and the plans for the winter season
What to check afterwards
- Comments and replies to the polls, which show the playful mood of the audience
- Saves and shares of the “second chance” posts
- Orders or visits connected to the extended holiday offer
