What it is
April Fools' Day, on 1 April, is a day of harmless pranks and jokes observed in many countries. Its exact origin is unclear and is usually linked to old European spring customs, so it is safest not to claim a single starting point.
Brands join in with fake product announcements and playful posts. The rule that keeps it friendly: reveal the joke the same day, so no customer is left wondering what is real.
Symbols: Fake announcements, whoopee cushions, paper fish on backs in some countries, “gotcha” faces
Emoji: 🤡 🎭 😜 🃏 🎈 🤪
Colours: Bright yellow, magenta, electric blue

Breaking news: starting today, our baristas are removing the espresso from the latte. Yes, it is just warm milk now. Just kidding! The latte is exactly as you love it. But we do have a real novelty this week: a new seasonal drink at the counter. Guess the flavour in the comments and we will confirm tomorrow.
Big news for our subscribers: we are launching the “Socks for one foot” collection. Limited stock, because who needs a pair? April Fools! Our real catalogue still sells socks in pairs. But if you enjoyed the joke, open the catalogue from the menu button and tell us what absurd product you would like to see next.
On April Fools' Day we are sharing a genuine lesson from agency life: every funny brief we have received had a real need hiding behind it. A joke request for “make the logo bigger and smaller at once” taught us how to ask better questions. What is the most unusual request you have ever had? Share it below.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Two panels: the announcement as the fake press release imagines it and the real product on a desk. The mismatch is the joke.
- Plot twist reveal. Start with a serious-sounding message, then a “wait for it” frame and a silly turn. Always end with a reveal line so no one takes it seriously.
What to avoid
- Do not joke about prices, refunds, deliveries or health: people may act on it and feel cheated
- Do not leave the joke unrevealed overnight; clarify the same day, ideally in a follow-up story
- Do not make fun of customers, minorities or sensitive topics; keep the gag on yourself
When to post
- Plan the joke a week ahead and show it to the team so nobody misses a bad angle
- Publish in the morning of 1 April (a Thursday in 2027) and reveal by the afternoon
- The day after, thank people for playing and link the joke to a real offer
What to check afterwards
- Comments and shares: this day is about conversation and reach
- Replies to the reveal story, which show how many people got the joke
- Clicks on the real announcement or link after the reveal
