What it is
Bonfire Night, also called Guy Fawkes Night, is marked in the United Kingdom on 5 November. It is usually linked to the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605 and the arrest of Guy Fawkes, and it has become an evening of bonfires, fireworks and sweet seasonal food.
For businesses it is a cosy autumn evening theme: warming drinks, family plans, sparklers and, importantly, safety. Many local events and displays are organised around the date, so people are actively looking for ideas.
Symbols: Bonfires, fireworks, sparklers, toffee apples, a scarf and woolly hat, hot chocolate

Bonfire Night is nearly here, and we are ready with something warm in a cup. Pop in before the fireworks, grab a hot drink and a sweet treat, and let your hands warm up before you head out into the cold. Tell us your must-have Bonfire Night snack in the comments and we may add it to the menu.
Planning Bonfire Night with children? Here are our simple reminders: keep a bucket of water nearby, wear gloves, hold sparklers at arm's length and never run with one. Our club is also making autumn crafts this week for children who prefer to stay in. Share your own family tips below, parents always have the best ones.
Loud fireworks can be stressful for pets. A few general ideas: keep them indoors, close the curtains, give them a quiet corner with a blanket and play some soft background sound. If your animal is very anxious, talk to your vet in advance rather than on the night. Reply here with your pet's name and we will share a short checklist.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Left panel: the perfect cosy evening with a bonfire. Right panel: you in three layers of scarves, holding a cup, with frozen toes. Keep it friendly and about the weather, not about any person.
- This is fine. Describe the format of a calm character at a table with flames behind, but use your own drawing or a photo of your bonfire-themed menu. Pair it with a joke about the cold, and keep any real fire safe and clearly separate.
What to avoid
- Do not encourage unsafe fireworks or sparkler use, and do not show children with fireworks without adult supervision
- Avoid jokes about the 1605 events that make light of real harm; the tone should stay about seasonal warmth and family time
- Do not forget your pet-owning audience: loud noise is a real issue for them, so keep messages considerate
When to post
- Prepare the safety checklist and the menu photos about a week ahead
- Publish the main post on 4 or 5 November so people see it before they make plans; the evening itself is the best time for a story
- The day after, reshare followers' photos and thank them, and put the autumn menu back to its usual place
What to check afterwards
- Saves and shares of the checklist carousel, which show how useful it was
- Replies to the poll and story stickers
- Walk-ins or bookings on the days around 5 November compared with a normal week
