What it is
Sinichkin Den, or Titmouse Day, is a Russian folk day on 12 November. It is usually linked to the folk calendar and the name day of St Zinovy, and it is the time when people traditionally start preparing for winter and think about feeding birds that stay in the city.
In recent years it has become a friendly seasonal theme: schools and kindergartens make feeders, pet and garden shops show bird food, and families post photos of birds at their windows.

Titmouse Day is the perfect time to hang a feeder. We have seed mixes and simple feeders in the shop, and our team can help choose what is suitable for city birds. Remember to keep the feeder clean and to fill it regularly. Tell us in the comments which bird visits your window most often, and we will share photos in our stories.
On 12 November we invite children to build bird feeders from simple materials. You will need a carton, string and a few safe tools, and we will show each step. Children can take their feeder home and hang it by the window. Reply here with your child’s age, and we will tell you which version of the craft fits best.
A pin board for teachers and parents: simple bird feeder ideas for a school project on nature in winter. Each pin has materials, steps and a short question for children, such as which birds stay for winter. Save the board and use it when you plan a lesson, or send it to your child’s class.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Left: a beautiful feeder with a cheerful bird. Right: the same feeder with a very proud squirrel. A friendly joke about backyard visitors.
- POV skit. A 10-second POV clip from the bird’s point of view with captions like “Finally, a restaurant open in November”. End with a sincere message about feeders.
What to avoid
- Do not give risky feeding advice, such as unsuitable foods; keep tips general and suggest checking with local bird experts or a nature society
- Do not use stock bird photos from other regions as if they were local; use real photos from your area
- Do not let the day become a hard sale; show a feeder and food as a part of the activity, not as the main message
When to post
- Prepare a feeder craft and photographs a week ahead, with the materials in stock if you sell them
- Publish on 12 November in the morning, so families have the idea for the day; a weekend workshop works well if the date does not fit
- The day after, share photos from followers and a reminder to keep refilling the feeder through the winter
What to check afterwards
- Saves of the craft carousel, which show real interest in the activity
- Photos and comments from followers with their own feeders
- Sign-ups to a workshop or sales of bird food and craft materials, if relevant
