What it is
International Students' Day is marked on 17 November. It is usually linked to events in Prague in 1939, when Czech universities were closed during the Nazi occupation, and to a student gathering in London in 1941 that proposed to mark the date each year.
Today it is mostly a positive day about students and their role in society. Universities, cafés, tutors and shops use it to say thank you, offer practical help and celebrate study life. It is not the same as Russia’s Tatiana Day on 25 January, which is the traditional students’ day there.

Happy International Students' Day. We have a quiet corner with outlets and Wi-Fi for those who need to study, and our team is happy to refill your cup. Bring your notes, a friend or just your laptop. Tell us in the comments the best study tip you ever got, and we will put the most useful ones on our wall.
On International Students' Day, here is a simple method for the week ahead: write your three main tasks, put each into a calendar slot and keep one evening free. Short breaks beat long marathons for many people. Reply with your biggest study challenge, whether focus, time or motivation, and we will answer in the next post with a practical idea.
Students, this one is for you. In 15 seconds I will show what is on a good study desk: a notebook, two pens, a planner, sticky notes and a lamp. Nothing fancy, only things that help you focus. What is the one item you cannot study without? Comment below and I will pin the most creative answer.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Left: a perfectly planned study session. Right: you and a cup of coffee at midnight with five open tabs. Keep it warm, as a shared experience with your student audience.
- POV skit. A 10-second POV clip from a student’s desk the night before an exam, with the caption “I will start in five minutes”. End with a helpful tip so the joke carries value.
What to avoid
- Do not joke about stress or exhaustion in a way that can feel dismissive; students deal with real pressure
- Do not promise a student discount you cannot keep, and state the conditions, such as showing a student card, in plain words
- Do not mix the day with Tatiana Day or celebrate a different history; if you mention the origin, keep it short and respectful
When to post
- Prepare the study-tips carousel a week ahead and the offer terms two weeks ahead
- Publish in the morning of 17 November, when students are planning their day, and add a story at lunchtime
- The day after, share the best tips from comments and say thank you to participants
What to check afterwards
- Saves and shares of the study carousel, which are the best signal of usefulness
- Foot traffic or orders that mention the student offer
- Number of comments with tips and new followers from student audiences
