What it is

International Accounting Day is marked on 10 November. It refers to the publication in 1494 of a work by the Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli that described double-entry bookkeeping, a method many people still see as the foundation of modern accounting.

Today it is a friendly professional day: finance teams, bookkeepers and the businesses that rely on them use it to say thank you, share practical tips and add a little humour to a serious profession.

Symbols: A calculator, a ledger, a stack of invoices, a spreadsheet, a cup of coffee at month-end

What to aim for

  • Build trust with B2B clients by showing expertise in a plain, useful way
  • Thank your own accountants and finance partners publicly (culture and relationships)
  • Get shares and saves with practical bookkeeping checklists for small business

Thank you to the numbers people

On International Accounting Day we want to thank the people who keep our books clear and our year-end calm. Good accounting does not make noise, but it lets a business plan with confidence. If you work with an accountant you trust, tell them so today. And if you are one, thank you for what you do.

Receipts: do this on Friday

A simple habit for smaller businesses: set aside ten minutes every Friday to photograph the week’s receipts and name the files with date and supplier. At the end of the month you will not have a mystery pile of paper. Save this for your next Friday, and tell us in the comments what your system is.

A small accounting question

Today is International Accounting Day, so here is a small question for founders: what is the one finance task you still do by hand and wish you did not? Spreadsheets, invoices, reminders, reconciliation, anything goes. Share yours below, and we will turn the most common answers into a short guide for small teams.

Meme and trend formats that fit

  • Expectation vs reality. Left: the founder who says “I will do the receipts weekly.” Right: a shoebox of paper at month-end. Make the founder the joke, not the accountant.
  • Two buttons. Describe the choice format with two options such as “categorise it now” and “find it again in March.” Draw your own simple version and end with the useful tip.

What to avoid

  • Do not make accountants the butt of every joke; mix humour with real thanks
  • Do not give tax advice that depends on a country or situation; keep tips general and suggest speaking to a professional
  • Do not use made-up statistics about business losses or fines to scare people

When to post

  • Prepare the checklist carousel a week ahead and ask your own accountant to review it
  • Publish on the morning of 10 November, when finance people are online; LinkedIn works best for B2B
  • The day after, answer comments with one extra tip and offer a short call or a downloadable checklist, if you have one

What to check afterwards

  • Saves and shares of the checklist carousel
  • Profile visits and new followers from the LinkedIn post
  • Replies to the poll, which show which pain points are the most common
