What it is
Remembrance Sunday is observed in the United Kingdom on the second Sunday of November, the Sunday closest to 11 November. It honours members of the armed forces who died in the two world wars and later conflicts, and the red poppy is its best-known symbol.
Many communities hold ceremonies at war memorials and mark a two-minute silence. For businesses it is not a marketing occasion: the right approach is a quiet, respectful message or no post at all, plus clear information if opening hours change.
Symbols: The red poppy, war memorials, a wreath, a moment of silence
Emoji: 🌺 🕊️ 🇬🇧 🕯️ 🙏
Colours: Poppy red, black, soft white
Hashtags: #RemembranceSunday #LestWeForget #PoppyAppeal #WeWillRememberThem #Remembrance
What to aim for
- Show respect for the day and for your community (trust)
- Keep customers informed about opening hours without any promotion (service)
- If it suits your team, support the poppy appeal in a quiet, non-commercial way (community)
Post ideas by format
Post
- A simple poppy image with one line such as “We remember”, with no logo banners and no offers
- A short practical post: “Opening hours on Remembrance Sunday”, with the poppy as the only visual
Carousel
- A quiet two-slide post: the poppy and a short sentence of respect, then the hours for the day
- If your team is involved in a local ceremony, a respectful carousel of photos from the event, taken with permission
Reel / short video
- Usually not recommended for this day; if you post a video, keep it short, silent or with calm music, and without effects
- A 10-second still with a poppy and a message, with no trending audio
Stories
- A single story with a poppy and “Today we remember”, no stickers, no polls
- A story about changed opening hours, in a calm and plain design

On Remembrance Sunday our team thinks of those who served and those who did not come home. Our office is closed today and will be back as usual on Monday. We are grateful to colleagues and clients who serve or have served, and we wish everyone a quiet, thoughtful day.
Today is Remembrance Sunday. We will be closed during the two-minute silence at 11 a.m. and open again straight afterwards, with shorter hours than usual. Thank you for your understanding. We remember those who served and those who lost their lives.
What to avoid
- Do not post offers, discounts or sales; this is a day of remembrance, not a commercial occasion
- Do not use jokes, memes, trending sounds or playful stickers; keep the design plain and the language sincere
- Do not use the poppy only as decoration for a product; if you use it, keep it simple and respectful, and avoid fake or careless claims about donations
When to post
- Schedule one quiet post in advance so it appears in the morning, and pause other scheduled promotional posts
- Be silent around the time of the two-minute silence at 11 a.m. on the day, with no new posts at that moment
- The next day, return to your usual content gently, without a sudden loud announcement
What to check afterwards
- Do not chase numbers for this day; check only for comments that need a respectful reply
- Questions about opening hours, to learn whether next time the information should be posted earlier
- Make sure no promotional post was published by mistake during the day
