What it is
Boss's Day is a light-hearted workplace day observed on 16 October in the United States and some other countries. It is usually traced to an American insurance employee who wanted a day to recognise her manager, and it grew into a day for thanking good bosses.
Today it is mostly a social-media day: a chance for teams to joke about their managers, for managers to thank the team back, and for brands to show how their own team works.
Symbols: A mug with “World’s okayest boss”, a desk plant, a thank-you card, an office chair
Emoji: 🙌 ☕ 📈 🤝 🪴 🏆

Today is Boss's Day, so we have to say it: the person who opens at 6 a.m. and tastes every new recipe before us deserves a coffee on the house. Tell us in the comments who your best boss is and we will pick one reader to treat to a flat white on Friday.
Boss's Day is a good moment for an honest list. The managers our team learned the most from did three things: they gave feedback within a day, they said “I don’t know” without fear, and they protected focus time. What would you add? We would love to hear what your best manager did differently.
Boss's Day is on 16 October. If you are looking for a small, tasteful gift for your manager, we collected a short list in the catalogue: things for the desk, for coffee breaks and for a good mood. Open the catalogue from the menu button and tell us your budget, and we will suggest three options.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Two panels: what the team expects a one-minute chat with the boss to be and what it turns into. Keep it kind: the joke should be about the situation, not about a person.
- POV skit. A 10-second POV clip from an employee’s seat with an overlaid text. End with a sincere line so the day does not feel like sarcasm.
What to avoid
- Do not make jokes at a real person’s expense, especially if you are an employer posting about your own team
- Do not turn the day into a hard sell: a gift idea or a coffee is fine, a 30% discount banner is not
- Avoid generic “best boss ever” stock images; one real photo of your team is better
When to post
- Prepare the carousel or Reel a week ahead so the team can approve the jokes
- Publish in the morning of 16 October on a workday; in 2026 the date falls on a Friday, so a relaxed tone works
- The day after, reshare the best comments to Stories to keep the conversation going
What to check afterwards
- Comments and replies: this is a light-conversation day, so conversation matters more than reach
- Shares and saves of the carousel, which show whether the advice was useful
- For B2B accounts: profile visits and new followers from the LinkedIn post
