What it is
International Volunteer Day is observed on 5 December and was established by the United Nations in the mid-1980s to recognise volunteers and encourage people to give their time. In Russia the day is also widely marked as Volunteer Day.
For businesses it is a chance to thank volunteers, share real team involvement in local causes and invite followers to join, without turning the cause into advertising.
Symbols: Open hands, a volunteer vest, a heart, a shared table, a team photo
Emoji: 🙌 💛 🤝 🌍 🧤 ✨
Colours: Warm yellow, teal, white
Hashtags: #VolunteerDay #IVD #ДеньДобровольца #Volunteers #GiveTime
What to aim for
- Trust: show how your team really helps, with respect for the people involved

Today is International Volunteer Day, and we want to say thank you to the people who give their time to help others. Our team joined a local volunteer action last month and learned more than we expected. If you volunteer, tell us in the comments what you do. Every cup of coffee for you today is a small thank-you from us.
On International Volunteer Day, we want to highlight a simple idea: skills can be a gift too. Our team spent a few hours helping a local non-profit with their content plan. If you are a professional, consider sharing a few hours a year with a cause you care about. If you represent a non-profit that needs help, message us and we will see what we can do.
International Volunteer Day is a good moment to invite you to join. Our students are helping at a local event this weekend, and there is room for a few more people. Write to us in private messages if you would like to come, and we will send the place, the time and what to bring. No special skills are needed, only the wish to help.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Day in the life. A warm, light montage of a volunteer’s day: coffee, gloves, boxes, laughter. End with a sincere thank-you and avoid mocking those who are being helped.
- Superhero without a cape. A playful panel of a volunteer in a plain vest as a “superhero”. Keep the tone respectful and avoid heroic exaggeration.
What to avoid
- Do not use volunteering only as a brand ornament; be real about what you did
- Do not publish photos of people being helped without their clear consent
- Avoid pressure on followers to volunteer; invite and explain, do not guilt
When to post
- Plan a real action or contact a volunteer group at least a few weeks ahead
- Publish on the morning of 5 December, a Saturday in 2026, which is a good day to invite people to join
- In the following days, share what the action achieved and thank everyone who joined
What to check afterwards
- Sign-ups or messages from people who want to join
- Comments with volunteers’ own stories
- Shares of the post and new followers who share your values
