What it is
Small Business Saturday is observed on the Saturday after US Thanksgiving, which in 2026 is 28 November. It is usually linked to an American campaign from around 2010 that encouraged shoppers to spend at small local shops between the bigger Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, and the idea was later picked up in the UK too.
Today it is a natural day for independent cafés, studios and online shops to tell their own story and to support their neighbours.

Small Business Saturday is the day we say thank you. This café is run by four people who know most of you by name, and every coffee you buy keeps a local roaster and a local baker in work too. Come by this weekend, say hello and tag a small business near you that deserves more attention.
Every order you place with us is packed by hand by a small team, and on Small Business Saturday we want you to meet them. Open the post to see who wraps your parcel and why we chose these products. Tell us in the comments which small business you are supporting this weekend, we are always looking for new favourites.
Independent businesses make a town feel like a place. On Small Business Saturday our team picked five local companies whose work we admire and wrote a line on why. If you run a small business, add yours in the comments so others can discover you, and if you are a customer, tell us who you will support this weekend.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Day in the life. A fast, relatable montage of a small-shop day: opening the shutter, packing orders, answering a customer. End on a sincere thank-you.
- Expectation vs reality. Two panels: what people imagine running a shop is like and what it really involves. Keep the humour warm and self-aware.
What to avoid
- Do not guilt people into buying; invite them instead
- Do not tag other businesses without asking, and do not promise offers you cannot keep
- Avoid generic stock images of shops; real photos of your place work far better
When to post
- Ask neighbouring businesses a week ahead if they want to cross-promote
- Publish your main post on Saturday morning and use stories for opening hours and the live atmosphere
- On Sunday thank everyone who came and reshare what customers tagged
What to check afterwards
- Visits, orders or bookings coming from the post and story links
- Tags, mentions and reshares from customers and partner businesses
- New local followers and replies in your messages
