What it is

St George's Day is celebrated on 23 April and is the national day of England. St George is the patron saint of England, and the day is associated with the red cross on a white flag and the red rose. It is not a bank holiday in England.

The day is often linked to the dragon legend and to English traditions, and many pubs, cafés and shops mark it with flags, food and local pride.

Meme and trend formats that fit

  • Expectation vs reality. Two panels: an elegant English afternoon tea in your imagination and the real one with a biscuit and a quick dunk. Keep the joke warm and self-aware.
  • Which one are you. A picture of four English personalities (tea purist, queue champion, weather commentator, Sunday roast fan) with a request to comment which they are.

What to avoid

  • Do not turn the day into a political statement; keep to food, local pride and community
  • Do not use the flag in disrespectful or party-political ways
  • Do not assume everyone in your audience is English; keep the tone welcoming to all customers

When to post

  • Order flags, bunting or ingredients a week ahead so the display is ready
  • Publish on the morning of 23 April (a Friday in 2027), before lunch
  • At the weekend, thank guests and share photos from the day

What to check afterwards

  • Saves of the recipe or product spotlight
  • Visits or orders linked to the themed menu or display
  • Comments with local recommendations from your audience
