What it is
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is observed on 28 April and was set up by the International Labour Organization, ILO, to promote safe and healthy workplaces. The same date is also widely observed by trade unions as a day to remember workers who died or were injured at work.
Because of that, the day has a serious side. For businesses it is a chance to talk honestly about practical safety, ergonomics and care for teams, rather than to promote a product.

On the World Day for Safety and Health at Work we want to share how our team keeps safety practical: a short briefing before every shift, a monthly check of equipment and an open channel where anyone can report a risk. It is not glamorous, but it is what protects people. What routines work for your workplace?
Many of us spend most of the day at a desk, so a few small changes matter. Raise your screen to eye level, keep your feet flat, stand up every hour, use good light and take real breaks. Swipe for a simple checklist and save it for Monday. These are general tips; if you have pain, please see a doctor.
Today many people remember colleagues who were hurt or lost at work. We use the day to look at our own routines: exits, first-aid kits, equipment and briefings. If you manage a team, take ten minutes today to walk through your space with fresh eyes. What is one thing you will check or improve this week?
What to avoid
- No jokes or trending memes: the day is also linked to remembering workers who were injured or died, and humour can offend
- Do not use dramatic or graphic images of accidents, and do not use any real incident for promotion
- Do not make legal or medical promises; give general information and recommend a qualified specialist when needed
When to post
- Prepare the content a week ahead and ask your safety specialist or doctor to review the advice
- Publish on the morning of 28 April (a Wednesday in 2027) in a calm, respectful tone
- In the following days, turn good questions into short guides and follow up on what you promised to check
What to check afterwards
- Saves and shares of the practical checklists
- Quality of comments from employers and employees, including useful questions
- Enquiries from businesses or candidates interested in your safety practices
