What it is
World Laughter Day is observed on the first Sunday of May. It was started in 1998 by the laughter yoga movement, whose founder wanted to promote laughter as a way to feel better and bring people together.
Today it is a perfect light day for brands: nobody expects a hard sell, and everybody enjoys a good joke. The best posts laugh with customers, not at them.
Symbols: A smile, a laughing face, a funny hat, a stand-up microphone, confetti

What to aim for
- Engagement: funny posts collect comments and shares more easily than serious ones
- Brand personality: show that your team has a sense of humour
- Community: invite followers to share their own stories and jokes

It is World Laughter Day, and we have a challenge. Write the funniest coffee joke you know in the comments. Our baristas will read the top three aloud in Stories tomorrow, and the author of the best one gets a free drink on their next visit. Warning: our best joke so far is the milk jug that always falls.
World Laughter Day is a good moment to say it: a team that laughs together communicates better. In our agency, we start Monday with one silly question in the chat, and it changes the mood for the whole week. Do you have a ritual that brings a smile to the team? Share it in the comments.
On World Laughter Day we answer the funniest questions we ever got, from “is it waterproof?” asked about a scarf to “does it come in a different size of the same size?”. Each answer is one short clip. Which one is your favourite? Comment, and we will make a part two with your funny questions.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Two panels about a typical situation in your industry, one polished and one chaotic. Make the joke about the situation, never about a real customer.
- Things people in our job say. A list of short phrases customers or colleagues say every day, presented as quick cuts. It shows your expertise and sense of humour.
What to avoid
- Do not joke about illness, disability, tragedies or any group of people
- Do not name or shame customers, even jokingly; anonymise every story
- Do not force humour if it does not fit your brand; a warm smile is enough
When to post
- Prepare the content a week ahead and test jokes on the team
- Publish on the morning of the first Sunday of May, when people have time to scroll
- Reshare the funniest comments the next day
What to check afterwards
- Comments and shares, the main signals for a humour post
- Replies to the Story question box
- New followers after the Reel or the challenge
