What it is
The Early May Bank Holiday is a public holiday in the United Kingdom, held on the first Monday of May. It was introduced in the late 1970s and today it simply gives people a long weekend at the start of spring.
For businesses it is a classic long-weekend moment: people plan day trips, garden projects, family meals and shopping. Clear opening hours and a small seasonal idea are the most useful posts.
Symbols: A long weekend, spring flowers, picnic baskets, a garden, a pub lunch, a day trip

Long weekend, no alarm and a free table with your name on it. We are open on Monday with our usual menu, and the terrace is ready if the weather behaves. Book ahead for groups of four or more, and tag the friend you are bringing. See you for brunch, and bring an umbrella just in case.
A quick note for the long weekend: on Monday, the Early May Bank Holiday, we are open on a reduced schedule, and the full hours are in the pinned post. Messages will be answered on Tuesday morning if we are away. Thank you for your support this spring, and we hope the sun stays with you.
Three days off and no plans? Pick a coastline you have never walked, a small town with a market, or a hill with a good pub at the bottom. We put together a quick guide for a no-stress day trip: a route, a lunch spot and a backup plan for rain. Tell us where you live, and we will suggest one.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. One panel with the sunny long weekend you imagined and one with the usual British weather. Keep it friendly and let your product or service be the solution.
- Weekend plans. A joke about the list of ambitious plans for three free days against what really happens. Works as a Story with a poll.
What to avoid
- Do not forget the opening hours; it is the most useful part of the post
- Do not promise anything you cannot deliver on a bank holiday, such as same-day delivery
- Avoid generic stock photos of sunny beaches if your location is far from one
When to post
- Publish your opening hours at least a week before the holiday
- Post your seasonal idea on the Thursday or Friday before, when people plan
- On Tuesday, thank people for visiting and reshare the photos they sent
What to check afterwards
- Bookings and enquiries received before the weekend
- Saves and shares of the ideas post
- Direction and website taps from your profile on the days of the holiday
