What it is

World Book and Copyright Day is a UNESCO observance on 23 April that promotes reading, publishing and the protection of authors through copyright. The date is usually linked to several famous writers who are associated with it, and in Catalonia it is also tied to a tradition of giving books and roses.

For brands it is a gentle, intellectual day: share what you read, recommend books and talk about the people who create content, including respect for their work.

Five books for our students

World Book Day is a good prompt to share what shapes us. Our teachers selected five books they recommend to anyone starting in this field: practical, readable and honest. We list them with a sentence on why each one matters. Which book would you add? We would love to expand the list with your favourites.

A book and a coffee

Today we are celebrating World Book Day at our café. Bring a book you have finished and leave it on our shelf, or take one you have not read yet. Stay for a coffee in our quiet corner by the window. Tell us in the comments what you are reading right now, and we will build our next shelf from your suggestions.

A book with your order

On World Book Day we have a small gesture: tell us in this chat what you are reading, and we will include a bookmark with your next order. We also put together a list of books about our field in the catalogue. Open it from the menu button, choose a title you like and write us if you would like a suggestion.

Meme and trend formats that fit

  • Expectation vs reality. Two panels: the reader you imagine yourself to be on a sofa with a thick novel, and the real one with seventeen browser tabs. Keep it self-aware and kind.
  • To-be-read pile. A picture of a huge unread pile with the caption that it will be finished “someday”. Ask followers to share their pile height.

What to avoid

  • Do not copy long passages from books; quote briefly with the author’s name or link to the source
  • Do not use illegal or pirated copies and do not link to them; the day is partly about authors’ rights
  • Avoid showing off a reading list you have not read; recommend only what you know

When to post

  • Ask the team for their book recommendations a week ahead
  • Post on the morning of 23 April (a Friday in 2027), when people plan their weekend reading
  • On the following days, publish a summary of your community’s favourite books

What to check afterwards

  • Saves of the book list, a sign it was helpful
  • Comments with followers’ own recommendations
  • Visits to the shelf or orders linked to book-themed offers
