What it is
World Blood Donor Day is observed every year on 14 June. It was established by the World Health Organization and its partners in the early 2000s to thank voluntary donors and to encourage regular, safe blood donation. The date is usually linked to the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, who discovered the ABO blood groups.
For businesses the day is an opportunity to thank donors, share reliable information from health professionals and, where it is practical, give employees time to donate.

Today is World Blood Donor Day, and we want to say a big thank you to everyone who donates blood. Your decision may help someone you will never meet. If you are thinking about donating, ask a doctor if there is anything to check first. We have collected answers to the most common questions in the carousel. Save it and send it to a friend.
On World Blood Donor Day our team is going to donate together, and anyone who wants to join will have time off for it. Participation is voluntary and private, and we remind everyone to check the requirements with the blood service first. We believe that small, regular actions inside a team can make a real difference. Does your company support donors?
Thank you to everyone who donates blood. Today, if you show us a donor card or a donation sticker, we will give you a hot tea and a snack on the house. It is a small way to say thank you for a very big gesture. If you are not a donor yet, ask your doctor if you can become one. We will be happy to see you.
What to avoid
- Do not use graphic images of blood, needles or illness; use clean, gentle visuals
- Do not pressure or shame people who cannot donate for health reasons; there are many ways to help
- Do not give medical advice yourself: refer readers to a doctor or the official blood service
When to post
- Contact the local blood service at least a month ahead if you plan a team donation day
- Publish on the morning of 14 June and add a reminder with practical details in Stories
- The day after, thank participants and share an honest summary, with consent
What to check afterwards
- Number of people who joined the donation day or asked about it
- Saves and shares of the guide, which show practical interest
- Comments and questions, which you can answer in a follow-up post
