What it is
Towel Day is a fan tribute to the British writer Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It is held on 25 May and has been observed since 2001, soon after the author’s death, and fans carry a towel with them all day, because the books describe it as the most useful thing a traveller can have.
It is a light, geeky day for brands that serve travellers, students and curious people. Keep it playful and use your own images and words, rather than quotes or material from the books.

Today is Towel Day, and every serious traveller knows why a towel matters. We asked our team what they always put in a suitcase. The answers are in the carousel, and you may be surprised. Write your own travel essential in the comments, and we will collect the funniest ones in Stories. Tag a friend who always forgets the charger.
Towel Day reminder for students: when the deadline is close, make a short plan, drink some water and begin with the smallest task. Panic is useless, a list is useful. What is the one thing in your bag that saves your study day? Tell us, and we will make a list of the best answers for the next exam season.
Towel Day challenge: pack a weekend trip in one small bag in fifteen seconds and show it to us. We pack ours first: a quick-dry towel, a charger, a notebook and a good book. Post your video with the hashtag, and we will choose three people to share in our account. Fans of the books will recognise the logic.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- The most useful thing. A clip where a team member uses a towel to solve a series of small problems, such as a spill or a chill. Keep the idea light and use your own props.
- Expectation vs reality. Two panels: the neat packing you plan and the real suitcase on departure day. Familiar to every traveller.
What to avoid
- Do not copy lines or passages from the books; refer to the idea in your own words
- Do not use images, covers or logos of the books or films without permission
- Do not imply that the franchise or the author’s estate endorses your promotion
When to post
- Prepare the packing-list carousel a week ahead
- Publish in the morning of 25 May so the team can post photos with towels during the day
- The day after, share the best answers of your followers and thank them
What to check afterwards
- Comments with travel essentials from followers
- Saves of the packing list
- Participation in the packing challenge or the poll
