What it is
World Environment Day is observed on 5 June and is led by the United Nations. It has been marked since the 1970s, and every year it highlights a particular environmental theme. In Russia the same date is also Ecologist's Day, a professional holiday for people who work in environmental protection.
For businesses it is a chance to talk about concrete, honest steps: less waste, refills, reusable packaging or support for local clean-ups. Large claims without evidence are better avoided.

On World Environment Day we want to remind you of a small thing that works: bring your own cup, and we will fill it with your coffee. We also sort our waste and ask suppliers to use less packaging. It is not perfect, but we are working on it. Tell us in the comments what eco-habit you have kept for the longest time.
To mark World Environment Day we want to share what we have changed in our packaging: we have replaced some plastic fillers with paper ones and ask suppliers for less packaging. There is still more to do, and we will report on progress honestly. If you have an idea on how to improve, write it below, and we will read every message.
World Environment Day is a good moment to look at our office. This year we reduced paper printing, introduced reusable bottles and moved many meetings online where it makes sense. We do not claim a perfect result, but we track what we do and plan the next step. What practical sustainability habit works in your team? Share it in the comments.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Left: a person planning a zero-waste life. Right: a person with a bag of reusable bags they forgot at home. Keep it friendly, self-ironic and encouraging.
- Before and after. Two panels with a small habit change in your business, for example from single-use to reusable. Add a real result you can verify.
What to avoid
- Do not use vague green claims such as “100% eco-friendly” without evidence; state exactly what you have done
- Do not use dramatic images of pollution or animals in distress as decoration for a sales post
- Do not shame customers for their habits; invite them to a small step instead
When to post
- Choose one real initiative a month ahead and collect numbers you actually track
- Publish on 5 June in the morning, and add a story or reminder in the evening
- The day after, share photos or results of the action and thank everyone who joined
What to check afterwards
- Participation in the action, such as refills, clean-up sign-ups or returned packaging
- Saves and shares of the habit carousel
- Comments with ideas from customers, which can feed your sustainability plans
