What it is
Global Running Day is held on the first Wednesday of June. It is usually linked to a running-industry initiative from the United States in the late 2000s, and it has since grown into an international day when people are encouraged to run, however far or slowly.
Gyms, running clubs, sports shops and health brands use it as a friendly, low-barrier occasion: invite people to join a run, share a plan for beginners and celebrate every first step.
Symbols: Running shoes, a finish-line ribbon, a fitness watch, a morning park, a bib number
Emoji: 🏃 👟 ⏱️ 💪 🌞 🏅
Colours: Energetic orange, white, graphite
Hashtags: #GlobalRunningDay #RunningCommunity #RunWithUs #RunnersOfInstagram #BeginnerRunner

It is Global Running Day, and our doors are open. Come to our group run in the park: slow, medium and fast groups, and a coach for every pace. Beginners are very welcome, since everyone started somewhere. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water and a friend if you like. Comment “I am in” and we will save you a spot.
Global Running Day is the perfect time to start. Here is our simple plan for week one: three short sessions, alternating one minute of easy running with two minutes of walking, and one rest day between them. Listen to your body and stop if something hurts. Questions? Ask them in the comments, and our trainers will reply today.
In this short video our shop team explains how to pick a pair of running shoes: what to look for in fit and cushioning, how to try them on, and why the afternoon is the best time to do it. If you are not sure, come to the shop and our staff will help you choose. Tell us in the comments what you want to know next.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Left: a runner gliding through a sunrise. Right: a real beginner, red-faced, at the 800-metre mark. Keep it warm and finish with an encouraging line.
- Day 1 vs day 30. Two panels showing the same runner on the first run and after a month of regular training. It works as an invitation to start a challenge with your club.
What to avoid
- Do not promise weight loss or fixed results; running affects people differently
- Do not give medical advice, and advise people with health concerns to consult a doctor before starting
- Avoid shaming slower runners or using only photos of elite athletes; show ordinary people on ordinary routes
When to post
- Announce the group run a week ahead with a clear start time and meeting point
- Post the invitation on the morning of the day and a reminder at lunchtime
- The next day, share photos and thank everyone who came, and announce the next run
What to check afterwards
- Sign-ups and attendance at the group run
- Saves of the beginner plan, which show interest from people who want to start
- New followers and enquiries for coaching or classes after the post
