What it is
Safer Internet Day is observed on the second Tuesday of February, in 2027 on 9 February. It started in the early 2000s as a European initiative and has since grown into a global day, with a different theme chosen each year to promote safer and more responsible use of technology, especially by children and young people.
Schools, parents, NGOs and technology companies take part, which makes it a good moment for businesses to share practical tips and to explain how they protect their users.

On Safer Internet Day, a simple idea for parents: talk with your child about what they see online before you set limits. Ask what apps they like, who they chat with and what they would do if something feels wrong. Save this post and ask one question at dinner tonight. Tell us in the comments which topic you would like us to cover next.
Here is a short quiz for the whole family for Safer Internet Day. A message says your parcel is on hold and asks for your card details: do you reply? A friend sends a strange link without a comment: do you click? A website asks for a one-time code you just received: do you enter it? Answer in the comments, and we will share the explanations tonight.
For Safer Internet Day, a reminder for every team: accounts are only as safe as the habits around them. Use a unique password for each service, turn on two-factor login, review who has access and remove those who no longer need it. We follow these rules ourselves, and we are happy to share a one-page checklist. Leave a comment if you would like a copy.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Would you click?. A two-panel layout drawn by you showing a suspicious message and a safe one, asking followers to spot the difference. Explain the answer in the caption.
- Expectation vs reality. Left: a strong, unique password ideal. Right: a password reused on every website. Poke fun at habits, not at people, and finish with a helpful tip.
What to avoid
- Do not use fear or scary stories involving real children to promote a product; keep the tone calm and practical
- Do not claim that your service makes users completely safe: say what you do and what the user should still do
- Do not publish real phishing messages with real senders, links or personal data
When to post
- Prepare the tips and the quiz a week ahead; Safer Internet Day 2027 is Tuesday 9 February
- Publish the main post in the morning and the quiz answers in the evening
- The day after, share a short checklist for parents or teams and answer questions from comments
What to check afterwards
- Saves and shares of the tips, a clear sign of usefulness
- Quiz participation and comments with questions
- Visits to your help or security page, and requests for the checklist
