What it is
World Tourism Day is observed on 27 September and is organised by UN Tourism, the United Nations agency for tourism. Each year it usually has a theme that highlights the social, cultural and economic value of travel.
For travel agencies, hotels, cafes and local shops it is a good moment to talk about places, routes and the experience of welcoming guests.

- Inspire travellers and remind them of bookings for the autumn and winter seasons
- Collect user-generated photos for your account
- For local businesses: show your city through the eyes of a visitor
Post ideas by format
Post
- “Three places in our city every guest should see” with one photo and a sentence each
- A short story of a favourite trip from the team and what they learned
Carousel
- “A weekend in [your city or region]”: one slide per half-day, with a tip on each
- “Pack light: what to take for an autumn city break”: one item per slide
Reel / short video
- Hook: “Where would you send a first-time visitor?” Quick cuts of three local places
- A 20-second “suitcase check” of what goes in a carry-on for a three-day trip
Stories
- A poll: “Sea, mountains or city for your next trip?”
- A “drop your travel photo” sticker, and reshare the best answers

Today is World Tourism Day. Travel is not only about photos; it is about people, food and the small things you notice on the way. Share your favourite trip in the comments and tell us what you want to see next. We will pick one reader and help build a route for their next weekend away, with ideas for sights, food and time to rest.
On World Tourism Day we want to welcome everyone who is new to our neighbourhood. Come for a coffee, ask the barista where to walk, and we will tell you where the locals eat and which park is best at sunset. Tourists and residents are equally welcome here. Tell us your favourite local tip in the comments.
In this video for World Tourism Day I share five habits that made my trips calmer: slow mornings, one local meal a day, a paper map as a backup, small talk with a host and one free afternoon. No gear list and no big budget required. Tell us in the comments which habit you want to try first.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Expectation vs reality. Two panels: the dreamy trip photo versus the real queue or rain. Keep it affectionate; travel stories feel more real when they are honest.
- Packing list. A comedic one-minute video of everything you meant to pack against what actually fit in the suitcase.
What to avoid
- Do not push last-minute discounts or invented urgency; a travel inspiration post works better
- Do not use stock photos from places you do not serve
- Do not make visa or health claims for specific countries; direct readers to official sources
When to post
- Prepare a route or city guide a week ahead and gather customer photos with permission
- Publish in the morning of 27 September
- The day after, reshare reader photos and answer questions about destinations
What to check afterwards
- Saves of the guide or packing carousel
- Replies to the poll and shared travel photos
- Booking enquiries or direct messages asking about routes
