What it is
World Animal Day is observed on 4 October, the feast day of St Francis of Assisi, who is traditionally seen as a patron of animals. It is a global day for animal welfare and responsible care.
Pet shops, vets, groomers and shelters use it to share care tips, introduce animals looking for homes and support local rescue work.

Ready-made post examples
Layouts we wrote as examples. Replace the details with your own business before you publish.
Today is World Animal Day. Our shop is full of people who treat their pets like family, and we love every photo you send. Share your pet in the comments and tell us one thing they taught you. We will gather the photos in Stories, and this week we are collecting food and blankets for a local shelter. Ask us in direct messages how to take part.
On World Animal Day we share a short autumn reminder for owners: keep paws clean after wet walks, make sure your pet has a warm place to sleep, and avoid sudden changes in food. This is general information, not a diagnosis. If your pet seems unwell, contact a veterinarian. You can leave a question for our team in the comments.
World Animal Day is a good moment to remember that every shelter relies on kind people. You can help by adopting, by fostering, or by bringing things the shelter has asked for: blankets, food, cleaning supplies. If you cannot do any of this, a share of this post also helps. Write to us here and we will tell you how to come and visit.
What to avoid
- Do not use images of suffering animals or humour that trivialises neglect; shelters and many followers find it hurtful
- Do not encourage impulse adoption or gifting animals; promote responsible care and name real organisations only
- Do not make donation claims you cannot prove: state who receives help and how
When to post
- Agree with the shelter or vet in advance and ask them to review any facts
- Publish in the morning of 4 October with a clear, simple way to help
- The day after, report what was collected and thank the people who took part
What to check afterwards
- Shares of the shelter post, which show reach for the cause
- Number of responses or visits to the shelter that mention your post
- Saves of care tips and photos shared by followers
