What it is

Cafes, restaurants and food brands use it to highlight plant-based dishes and to show that vegetarian food can be filling and tasty.

Veggie dish of the day

Today is World Vegetarian Day, and our kitchen has a dish of the day without meat: roasted vegetables, creamy hummus and fresh herbs on warm bread. It is on the board until we run out. Tell us in the comments which vegetable you would like to see on the menu next, and we will try the most popular suggestion.

Easy veggie dinner

Here is a simple vegetarian dinner idea for World Vegetarian Day: roast carrots, chickpeas and peppers with olive oil, add herbs and a squeeze of lemon, and serve with whole grains. It takes about thirty minutes and one tray. Save the pin, adjust it to what is in your fridge and tell us your favourite vegetable combination.

Clear labels on our menu

For World Vegetarian Day we have updated our menu so vegetarian options are clearly marked. You will find them with a green leaf next to the dish name. If you have questions about ingredients, ask us and we will check with the kitchen. Tell us in the comments which dish you would like to see in vegetarian form, and we will think about how to cook it.

Meme and trend formats that fit

  • Expectation vs reality. Two panels: what a “boring salad” sounds like versus a beautifully plated vegetarian dish. Keep the joke about the plate, not about people who eat meat.
  • This or that. A simple choice between two vegetarian dishes for followers to vote on in a story or comments.

What to avoid

  • Do not shame meat eaters or lecture; invite people to try, not to convert
  • Do not label dishes vegetarian unless you have checked every ingredient, including broths and sauces
  • Do not make health claims about vegetarian food

When to post

  • Test the dish of the day with the team and check ingredient labels a week ahead
  • Publish in the morning of 1 October so people can plan lunch
  • The day after, share guests’ photos and ask what stays on the menu

What to check afterwards

  • Orders of the featured dish
  • Saves of the recipe pin or carousel
  • Comments and poll votes asking for more vegetarian options
