What it is
World Smile Day is observed on the first Friday of October. It was created by Harvey Ball, the American artist usually credited with designing the classic smiley face, as a day for kind acts and smiles.
Businesses use it to show the team behind the brand, share warm customer feedback and do something small and kind for the community.
Symbols: The yellow smiley face, a sticker, a bright smile, a small kind gesture

Today is World Smile Day, and our team wants to know what makes you smile. A good coffee? A quiet morning? A friend’s message? Write it in the comments, and we will read every answer with a smile of our own. Thank you for trusting us with your care and for being a part of our day.
It is World Smile Day, so our baristas made a small experiment: smile at every guest for one hour and see what happens. Spoiler: most smiled back, and a few told us about their day. Try it today with someone on your way: a neighbour, a colleague, a cashier. Tell us in the comments how it went.
World Smile Day is a good time to say thank you to clients who make our work a joy. If you would like to share a smiling photo from your visit, send it to us here, and with your permission we will feature a few in a special post. Tell us the nicest compliment you ever received and we will share some of the best.
Meme and trend formats that fit
- Mood before vs after. Two panels: a grumpy Monday-type moment and the same scene after a small kind gesture. Keep it gentle and about the mood, not about any person.
- Smile challenge. A light challenge where the team and followers smile at a stranger and share how it felt. Never pressure anyone to smile or to show their face.
What to avoid
- Do not use photos of clients or children without their clear permission
- Do not make people feel they must be happy; the tone should be warm, not forced
- Do not offer gifts for smiles in a way that pressures people to share personal photos
When to post
- Collect real feedback and plan a small kind gesture a week ahead
- Publish in the morning on the first Friday of October to set a good mood for the end of the week
- On the following Monday, share the best smiles and thank everyone
What to check afterwards
- Comments and user-generated photos
- Story poll votes and replies
- Shares of the team or review post
